Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop PSYC 397 (Winter, 2020). At the end of February, an unforeseen circumstance regarding my father¿¿s criminal past occurred, resulting in a need for me to be involved in legal matters during this time. This has hindered my academic performance and has made me realized that taking six courses this semester would not be wise if I want to perform at my academic peak. After careful consideration, I chose this course because I plan to graduate this spring but cannot drop any courses of my major because they are all mandatory for my requirements. Dropping PSYC 397 would force me to drop my psychology minor, but for my well-being I believe that this is a wise decision. This extenuating circumstance of mine will continue throughout the term and beyond, thus lightening my course load now is of upmost importance to me. If this appeal is granted, I will use this slightly lighter course load to deal with my circumstance and achieve higher grades for a greater chance to enter grad school in the future.
