Petition Letter
Petition Letter: The extenuating circumstances are bipolar 1 disorder (aka manic-depression) and alcohol use disorder (aka alcoholism). Early fall I fell into a deep depression and turned to my old friend alcoholism to survive. I had a handful of days here and there where I felt the heavy fog lifting but I was unable to pull myself out of the persistent funk for any lasting period. I was seeing my psychiatrist via telepsychiatry throughout and relaying my difficulties. It was a very dark time and the precise timeline is a blur. My fall semester was basically a writeoff but I made arrangements to make up the coursework with an IN in place. I wrote the first three tests during the winter semester but I had a manic episode in March that required hospitalization. The mania was severe enough to warrant 3 days of involuntary admission (form 1) and then an additional 14-day of involuntary admission (form 3). The hospitalization coincided with the COVID-19 emergency so I am reeling in more ways than one now that I am back in the real world. Things could be worse though because my current medication regimen seems to be doing the trick. I am fully complying with the direction of medical professionals. I am confident that I can turn things around now that my brain is no longer conspiring against me. I believe Aegrotat-standing is justified in my case and it would be a big help for me going forward. Thank you for your kind consideration.
