Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing this appeal letter in order to get the Incomplete Grade (IG) for Economics 222 (Introduction to Microeconomics) removed from my record.

I was registered for the course for the Fall 2019 semester. I completed all assignments and the mid-term (77). However, I was unable to write the final exam. The final exam was scheduled for December 19, 2020. I unfortunately had to defer the exam due to anxiety related issues beyond my control (I am on anxiety medication but I still experience periodic anxiety attacks). I notified the Queens Wellness Centre and arrangements were made to write the exam in the winter semester. The new exam date was January 17, 2020. The week of the exam, I began to experience the following symptoms:

- nausea
- headaches
- coughing
- vomiting
- stomach ache

I was unable to keep food down and had to miss a couple of classes. I continued to study as best as I could and my plan was to write the test as scheduled. On Thursday, there was no improvement in my health and I was still unable to keep any food in my system. I went to the Queen's Clinic and saw Dr. Linda O'Connor. She diagnosed me with a stomach ailment and prescribed me Apo-Pantoprazole. She also advised me that she would send a note to my professors, including Professor Stewart.

I emailed Professor Stewart on January 16, 2020 to advise that I was sick and that Dr. Connor would be sending a note to defer the exam. The following week I received an email to contact Jill to make arrangements to write the exam. I received an email from Jill on January 28, 2020 advising me that I needed to file an appeal.

I was unable to access a copy of this document as I left it in my residence in Kingston. A copy can be obtained from the Wellness Center and it was emailed to all of my professors. I will try and obtain it from the clinic and upload as soon as possible.
