Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Dean Crow,
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain the circumstances I was facing. I am appealing to add PHSY 118 to my summer school courses after the academic deadline. I was faced with circumstances, some that were in my control and others which were beyond my control. I had some family-related financial problems, and an elderly family from back home who was still recovering from COVID-19 which both put a lot of pressure on both my family and I. This situation took a toll on my mental health, and I knew that I had to be there for my parents and family during this time. Alongside these two problems, I decided to go back to my part time job after the winter term courses were done in order to save up for my tuition in the upcoming school year. These conditions led me to lose track of my time and deadlines on summer school courses. I am aware that I did get the chance to apply to another summer school course (STAM200) as at the time I knew that I need this course regardless. However, I had one missing mark from my winter term courses which held me back from being able to calculate my final GPA. With uncertainties on my GPA and which major I want to pursue, I was unsure of what course credits I needed. PHYS118 is required for me in order to graduate from a chemistry major, as well as a prerequisite for medical school. Since I just had this course this past year, I believed that it would be easier to retake this course now since I just finished the course.
