Petition Letter: Dear Sir/Ms,
Hello
My name is Fangyu Liu and my student number is 20130995. I am an international second-year student. In the first year I discovered my physical discomfort and emotional depression. This had a great impact on my life and study. At that time, because I was the first-year international student, I did not know how to seek help from the school. I finally went to the emergency department of Kingston General Hospital because I could not control my suicidal thoughts. Fortunately, the nurse of KGH helped me contact the staff of the Student Wellness Service Center. They arranged for a psychological counselor to meet me regularly and also helped me to receive medical treatment. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago, but after receiving treatment at the Student Wellness Service, the doctor thought I was depression. The psychiatrist changed the medication after that.
I resumed medical treatment in the summer of 2019 . My mental and emotional state had greatly improved since I reverted to medication. My learning status is also more stable. I believe there is a reason for the low GPA in the first year and why I fail these two courses. I didn't know that I was depression at the time, and I didn't expect the body to be affected so much. In the second year of university, my GPA increased significantly after treatment.
I didn't take 24 credits in the first year due to depression, which caused me to delay joining the history major. After consulting with Arts&Science office's academic advisor, he proposed that I seek Student Wellness Service 's documentation and file an academic appeal with school. I hope to drop these two courses. This may help my grade.
Thank you very much
Best
