Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dean of Studies,
I am asking for an Aggregate Standing in Fren 230 from the fall 2019 smester. Although this course began in the fall, I was unable to take the final during the regular 2019 exam season due to extenuating circumstances related to mental health. I requested a deferral and the professor teaching the course, Dr. Julien Lefort-Favreau, agreed for me to take it within the first few weeks of the winter semester. However, my grandmother, who¿¿s had Dementia for many years, began to steadily and quickly decline after the winter break. I visited her very often during the first few weeks of January which made it difficult to take the final and she unfortunately died in mid-January. I felt I was unable to take the exam due to the stress and sadness her passing brought me. I had intended to submit this very early on in the winter semester but unfortunately, I was distracted by academic integrity accusations from another professor which have since been found to be fallible. I had completed all work in the course, neglecting the final, which accounts for 75 of my grade.
I was, of course, also distracted by the outbreak of COVID-19 which has been my primary reason for not submitting this appeal on time. I do not believe quarantining, however necessary, to be beneficial to anyone¿¿s mental health and that includes my own. Buckingham County, where I live, has the largest number of cases compared to our surrounding areas and that has therefore been very stressful. Trying to obtain a summer job and pay bills in the current time is very difficult and I have found my results to be unstable and unreliable which has added even more stress.
I have been primarily focusing on keeping myself healthy during this time and I sincerely apologize for submitting this so late.

Sincerely,
Diana Ingham
