Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I'm appealing an F in my grades from the class PHIL 362 - Further Studies in Logic. After enrolling in this course in SOLUS it didn't appear on my schedule and I didn't have access to it on onq. I emailed the professor of the class about the issue, Prof. Nancy Salay, and she replied that it was because I actually wasn't enrolled in the class. I was really disappointed about this because it was the class I was most looking forward to that year so I tried contacting the registrar about what I should do and what went wrong when I was enrolling. But by the time someone got back to me about this, it was past the add/drop deadline and they didn't seem to know what went wrong. They mentioned that I could submit an appeal to add the class late, but I would have been too behind in the class to only start it now at this point and I didn't want my grades to suffer from enrolling so late in a class so I decided not to and just went on with the semester obviously believing that I was not in that class. However, at the end of the semester when I went to check my grades, it showed that I got an F in this class. I'm not sure how this happened, but it's obvious that it's some sort of technical or clerical error made by the university and I don't believe my gpa and transcript should suffer in such a negative way because of this.
I am submitting this appeal past the 21 day deadline because I come from a very low income family and because of this I was not able to view my grades until all outstanding fees were paid on SOLUS, which wasn't until after 21 days of the semester ending, which I didn't believe would be an issue as I was unaware I would be graded on that class and need to submit this appeal. And it has made me unable to submit this appeal until I had the funds to do so which is now.

Thank you,
Mackenzie Fennell
