Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear the Associate Dean of Academics,

I am appealing to add ECON 361 (Fall, 2020) after the academic deadline.

I was originally enrolled into ECON 361 and then while I was trying to swap two other courses on Solus, I accidents swapped ECON 361 for another course (without realizing it) and therefore, I accidentally dropped the course. I only realized this when I no longer had access to the course on OnQ. I contacted the professor of the course, Sitian Liu, and she gave me permission to re-enroll into the course, despite it being listed as full on Solus. She proceeded to forward the email to the Undergraduate Assistance/Advisor of the Department of Economics, Jennine Ball, to re-enroll me into the course. After not hearing from Jennine Balll, we found out that she is on Vacation, which neither I nor Professor Liu were aware of. Jennine told me to email Professor Ian Cromb, The Undergrad Chair of the Economics Department. I proceeded to email him but unfortunately, I did not get an email response from him until after the add date passed and now, he can no longer add this course on Solus for me. Since he can no longer do it, because the deadline has passed, he advised me to submit an academic appeal.

I have a lot of interest in taking this course and I know I can learn a lot from taking it. I am sorry I made this mistake. This is the first time I have ever made a mistake like this with course enrollment and I will make sure to be extra careful in the future when swapping courses. I am in my fourth year at Queen's and this is my last opportunity to take this course which I believe is a very good fit for me. I realized my mistake before the add deadline finished but it is completely out of my control that it took so long for someone from the Economics Department to get back to me.

Note that if you look at my Solus account, you will observe that I am currently enrolled into five courses. I intend to drop one of the courses I am currently enrolled into as soon as I am re enrolled into ECON 361. The reason why I am currently in five courses in because as the deadline approached, I was getting scared that I would not hear back from anyone before the deadline (which I didn't) so I enrolled into a fifth course as a backup.
