Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello Dr. Stephenson, and Ms. Jarymowycz,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Nick Barnes and I am currently in my 4th and final year of my Applied Economics undergrad degree. I am requesting to drop my ECON 320-001 (3185) class and replace it with ECON 361-001 (3858). The reasoning for this request is that I was unable to understand the class material and workloads in a concrete way until just after the deadline. With respect to why I am only appealing ECON 320 is that my interest, workload, and confidence in the other class¿¿s material are all in good order. Having friends in the ECON 361 class, I feel I will be much better able to manage my workload, especially that I am in my 4th year of Economics and since classes are online, having friends to assist in learning the material is essential for doing well. Further, I find the topics covered in 361 (Income Distributions & Problems of Inequality) to be far more engaging and relevant to my seminar next semester since this class covers both qualitative and quantitative ways of assessing inequality. Lastly, with regards to switching this late in the semester, my friends have informed me that the first assignment is not due until later in October shortly before reading week begins. This provides me with sufficient time to learn the material and to do well in the course compared to the structure of ECON 320 this semester. I am aware that the class is not full and that another of my friends recently switched into ECON 361 and has been one of several peers helping me understand the choice and consequences in switching and I know I will enjoy and thrive much better in ECON 361
