Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Good Afternoon Associate Dean,

I am Liam Silverson, and I am writing this to appeal to drop my ECON 111/110 (Fall, 2020, Winter 2021). I accept full responsibility for my sub-par academic performance in ECON 111/110 and admit that it was because of my poor attention to detail that I missed the due date for dropping the course.

On Thursday October, the 29th I was informed that I could drop the class by my football coach. The previous day my father had to be rushed to the hospital due to an unknown complication. At the time my mother had also been stuck at home sick. Due to both of my parents being ill at once, one at home and one at the hospital I had to increase my responsibility at home. I incorrectly assumed that I would be able to balance my school work and take care of my family during those few days. With so much to accomplish in just a few days, dropping my economics class went to the back of my brain. It was not till Tuesday, November 3rd I got a call from my coach inquiring why I did not drop the class. I apologized to him and admitted my failure, he was able to direct me to the appeal letter in hoping I would be able to successfully drop this class through this appeal.

Although I have never been at the top of my classes I have always given my best effort to succeed. I can see in my ASTRO 101 and GNDS 125 class that I am achieving the marks that I am desiring. I misunderstood the full workload that the ECON 111/110 full year course entailed. I accept full responsibility for failing to drop my class on time. I thought that taking over responsibility for my parents for a few days would not effect my grades or course work. I had failed to recollect my wish to drop ECON 111/110. I have learned from my mistakes and have taken steps to further help me with my academics like meeting with my Coaches every 2 weeks, Gaels 101/201, utilizing programs like Paper and Gaels Tutoring. I hope by taking these steps will put me in a better place to succeed. I had wished to drop Economics and pick up a class over the summer so I can properly succeed in academics and give it my full attention while maintain my six-class workload per year goal. I am willing to work through summer to maintain this goal.

I have learned and matured from my mistake and hope to make up by showing in my ASTRO 101 and GNDS 125 classes how hard I am willing to work in my academics. Thank you for the time you have taken to consider my appeal for dropping ECON 111/110.
Sincerely,
Liam Silverson
