Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate dean of studies,
The last 8 months have been extremely hard for me. This fall semester I took 3 courses and thought I could complete them but I had to juggle a full time job to continue to pay for my rent at home, in Kingston and tuition. I quickly fell behind. I decided to drop 2 out of the 3 courses I was taking and had written on my calendar that the last day to drop these courses was November 6th. I logged into solous on November 6th to find out I could no longer drop them and the last date was November 2nd. This was completely a discrepancy on my part. I immediately emailed the head of film studies (both of the courses are film) to explain my situation and she just got back to me know explaining I needed to file an appeal. Over the last 4 years at queens I've struggled a lot with anxiety and depression and every time I am given the chance to apply for accommodations I always neglect it. Time management has been one of the hardest things for me and one of the most I'm trying to work on. It took me 2 months to get an appointment with my psychiatrist to get a refill of my ADHD medication and anti- depressants. Working from home has not been easy, epically someone who struggles with attention. The same situation occurred During the summer as I took 2 courses, didn't have my medication and tried to juggle 2 jobs. I am appealing to drop FILM 217 and FILM 342 late this semester. I would also like to get the 2 summer courses WRIT 125 and FILM 260 off my transcript. These grades are not an accurate representation of what I am capable of. I am unsure on the appeal process and if I write both of these different situations in one letter. I will be meeting with my psychiatrist again on Friday the 27th, and I can get a letter to add to the appeal form. I am back on my medication feeling more focused and ready to pass the course I've continued working on FILM 335. Next semester I will pull all my focus onto school and have a successful course load. I appreciate you taking the time to read this.
Thank you,
Maria Hervas.
