Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

During the months of November and December of 2020, particularly November 24th onwards, I experienced an unexpected progression in my diagnosed medical condition (currently documented with QSAS) that led to a spiral in my mental and physical health, subsequently interfering with my ability to function in an academic setting. This progression and its clinical manifestations significantly triggered my PTSD resulting in periods of continuous dissociation and severe distress, heavily impacting my ability to study and prepare for my academic responsibilities. I was unable to write the final exam for this course, worth 45 percent of the final grade, and upon discussions with accommodation and academic advisors, it was deemed best to focus on courses with less heavily weighted material, prioritize my well being and appeal for a late drop. Additionally, the nature of my medical condition involves flare-ups caused by stressful events, one of which was triggered by this mental spiral. As a result, I struggled with increased incidence of joint dislocations (up to 15/day), muscle pain, and extreme fatigue, all of which made it even more difficult to focus on my studies. Another implication of this progression involved the necessity for continuous travel between cities to attend appointments and see specialists, once again impairing my ability to succeed in my studies. In conclusion, this progression in my health was unexpected and had severe implications that significantly altered my ability to prepare and succeed in this course, hence the appeal for a late drop.
