Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I appeal for dropping 2 courses after the deadline has passed.
Last semester, I was facing psychological challenges as well as domestic problems. Since the pandemic started(March 2020), my social interactions have severely decreased. I found it hard to keep up with online studying and failed some of my courses in the 2020 winter term. I then became self-conscious and stopped answering my friends' messages(and eventually blocked them) through social media.
I was becoming more depressed day by day.
In the middle of last semester, at the start of November, my parents had a great fight, which made me further frustrated and I thought about suicide. The suicidal state lasted for the rest of the semester and I stopped handing in assignments and attending exams. I still attended my PHYS104 tutorials because I did not want to fail my group.
One week ago, I had a deep talk with my mother and found the courage in me to solve this mess. I unblocked my friends on social media, who showed great empathy on what I had experienced. I registered an account on the Therapy Assistance Online(TAO). I called an academic advisor, who encouraged me to appeal.
The academic advisor also informed me there was an extension in drop deadlines last semester due to COVID19. Some courses allow dropping even after the exam grades are out. Unfortunately, since I was in depression, I missed these deadlines as well.
I hope that my appeal could be considered.
