Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I wish to appeal in order to gain credit for a course completed in the summer between my first and second year (July 2012). During this time, I had taken part in the J'Explore program at the Université de Montreal. Despite gaining full credit for the French course taken, I did not take the necessary steps to transfer this credit to count towards my degree at Queen¿¿s.

The reasoning behind this was shortsightedness. I have never failed a course, nor did I have any other reason to believe I would need to eventually exercise this credit. Further, I was not aware of the time limit placed upon credits of this nature. To me, the option to gain credit was always available and there was never any impetus to take the necessary steps with Queens¿¿ administration.

Currently, I am in my final semester of my undergraduate program. I am heavily involved outside of class as Co-President of the Economics¿¿ Department Student Council, Peer Mentor though the Health and Disability Services, and executive member of the Queen¿¿s Real Estate Investment Conference and the Queen¿¿s Economics Investment Club. Between my current academic coursework, my extensive extra curricular involvements and continuous job search, I am finding myself very strained. Gaining the credit I earned with the J¿¿Explore program would allow me to drop an elective course (not needed to graduate with my desired degree) and thus allow me to devote more of my time and energy into my core courses and external involvements.

I am sorry for the inconvenience that my delay has caused, and I thank you very much for taking the time to consider my appeal.

Sincerely,

Madeleine Payne

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Should my retroactive appeal to gain a transfer credit be successful, I would very much still be on track to graduate in the spring. Further, the ability to drop the elective course I am currently enrolled in would allow me to devote more time and energy to my core courses, extracurricular involvements and job search.
