Petition Letter: January 29, 2015
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to be granted permission to add MUSC 289 to my course schedule for the winter 2015 semester. I realize that the add/drop deadline has passed. However, I just learned yesterday that I am in need of one more course to be able to graduate at the end of this school year with the rest of the Physical and Health Education and Kinesiology students.
Unfortunately, earlier this semester when I ran my own My Academics- Academic Requirements- View my Advisement Report I still had a few classes of interest in my Shopping Cart. What I was not aware of was the fact that the report takes into consideration all courses in the Shopping Cart and Planner. Seeing that my requirements were Satisfied with only being registered in four classes, I thought that my requirements were fulfilled and did not add a fifth course to my schedule. It has been brought to my attention (now, after the add/drop deadline) that I did in fact need a fifth course.
I am a dedicated, hardworking student who has been able to maintain close to a 3.5 GPA for the last three semesters. I believe that I should be given permission to add this class to my schedule so that I can complete my degree on time and graduate with the rest of my class. This mishap has given me more drive than before to do well in my classes and get caught up with MUSC 289.
I have been in contact with the professor of MUSC 289, Dr. Matthew Rogalsky, who has agreed to grant me permission to take his class. Dr. Stephanie Lind, the Chair of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Music, has also been informed and understands my situation. I have already reviewed the course syllabus and have been informed that I have not missed any of the course evaluations. The first evaluation is on February 12th. I have three friends who are in the class who have already agreed to help me get caught up with the notes and study for the first midterm. I strongly believe that I will catch up on course material before this date and will write the exam at the same time as the rest of the class.
I have already planned to attend class while this appeal is going through, so as not to miss any more of the classes. I hope that, with your consideration and approval, I will be able to add this course officially to my timetable and graduate along with the rest of my classmates.
Thank you,

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: January 29th, 2015
Academic Plan for catching up in MUSC 289.
Last semester I took MUSC 171, which is similar to MUSC 289, and was able to maintain the work load. Jumping into a class where I have missed four classes will be challenging, however I believe with my work plan (outlined below) I will be able to catch up efficiently. I am up to the challenge I find the topic of the class to be interesting, and I am highly motivated to catch up as fast as possible to be able to graduate on time. I am good at time management, and can apply myself to work and concentrate for long periods of time. I am currently up to date, and on schedule with all of my other classes. I strongly believe that adding another course will not hinder or effect my performance in my current courses.
1. Start attending classes immediately (while appeal is being processed).
2. Meet with friends who are in MUSC 289 to get notes and discuss topics covered in class.
3. Schedule reading time to catch up on all MUSC 289 class readings/notes/listening examples. (This will happen on Wednesdays, Fridays, and weekends as needed. I have large chunks of free time on those days that I will use to apply myself to MUSC 289.)
4. Make own notes of class topics/reading/discussions/listening examples.
5. Meet with Dr. Rogalsky after catching up to see if there was anything else important that my friends may not have taken notes on, or missed.
6. Meet with other students to study as a group for the first evaluation on February 12th.
7. Keep attending all classes.
8. Remain up to date with course work.
9. Attend Dr. Rogalsky's office hours as/if needed.
