Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Associate Dean,
My name is Olivia Arkinson, and I am appealing a change to my transcript concerning two of my courses last year. Thus, I am appealing a Credit standing. Initially, I believed I had applied for the pass/fail option while available in the spring due to COVID-19, but after looking into it seems I did not. I am currently a second-year Arts and Science, Bachelor of Arts Honours, specifically majoring in Sociology. During my first year, I chose to take courses outside of those required for my major. Thus, the classes I am appealing are Introduction to Human Anatomy (ANAT 101) and Introduction Biology of Organisms (BIOL 103) courses. When arriving at Queen's, I had planned to major in Biology; after completing BIOL 102, I realized that my academic interests lay elsewhere. In March, when students were sent home due to COVID-19, the lockdown greatly affected my mental health as a result of isolation and the abrupt change of environment. Consequently, my grades decreased and were not at the standard I uphold. My mental health was at the lowest it has ever been. When the pass/fail option was presented, I hesitated because I was unsure of the classes I needed to pursue the degree I wanted. Therefore, when the pass/fail option was introduced, I hesitated as I was uncertain of the courses I needed to satisfy my potential degree requirements. After considering my options and interests, I decided to seek a degree in Sociology. As my grades were not changed, I assumed I had missed the deadline. Unfortunately, I do not recollect this as I was prioritizing my mental health at the time.
I'd appreciate all the help your team has given me throughout this complicated situation. Thank you for the time and consideration given. Please let me know if my appeal will be approved.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Olivia Arkinson
