Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I wish to drop HIST206, which I initially took in fall 2020. From the beginning of the semester to late October, I was absent from class, as I was dealing with extremely unfortunate family circumstances. These events adversely affected my mental health and my ability to concentrate on school. Upon returning to class, I was overwhelmed trying to catch up on school work. During this period, I contacted student wellness services, as well as academic advising to determine the most effective solution of proceeding both mentally and academically. I was suggested to utilize the late drop appeal. Since I was very behind on all courses and responsible for managing five classes, I lacked a substantial ability to properly complete the course. Specifically, I only completed a midterm essay assignment and approximately six weeks of lectures. Because of my situation, I am confident that a late drop appeal is justified, as I could not adequately give HIST206 my full attention.
