Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Dr. Stephenson,
I am writing as I would like to drop two courses from this semester (Winter 2021) after the deadline of March 5th, 2021 without academic or financial penalty. More specifically the courses I am interested in dropping are BIOL 206 and PHGY 215. I have been very unwell both mentally and physically, and my studies have been negatively impacted by my chronic conditions. Without getting into greater detail my physical and mental conditions, both of which are documented in QSAS, have been and are still is compromised. I, my support systems, as well as my medical team, feel that the best decision moving forward is to lighten my current course load so my condition does not worsen. My health began going south in early February; I have tried to overcome my circumstances over the past few weeks, but my attempts have proven to be unsuccessful. My condition has caused me to be significantly physically unwell which then has led to a diminished mental state. I was doing very well in my courses up to the recent weeks and my grades would prove this. I have chosen to drop the two previously mentioned courses as I feel they are putting the most strain on me at the moment. If my appeal were to be granted, I plan to take summer courses both in 2021 and 2022 to make up for these dropped credits; I am confident this is the best plan for both my overall health and academic success at Queens. I will follow this appeal with documentation from my medical specialist and supporting medical records.
Thank You,
Mikaela Naumann
