Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Office of The Associate Dean:

I hope this finds you well and that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. My name is Ayesha Haniff, and I am currently a continuing education student seeking a BSC of Life Science in the Arts and Science online degree program. I am writing this letter on the grounds to appeal for a withdrawal after the drop date for PHGY 215 and to appeal for a request in credit standing for PHAR 300. I am appealing due to unforeseen circumstances caused by the current COVID-19 pandemic. I currently work in order to provide for myself and to pay for my education. I work as a Pharmacy Technician however due to the ongoing pandemic, my role has been shifted and been more demanding as per government requirements. As a Pharmacy Technician living in New York City, I have been on the front lines this year administering vaccinations in government-controlled facilities in NYC hotspots. In these locations, I have witnessed multiple incubations and deaths alongside my station for vaccination and testing I have been working directly with the CDC and placed on numerous night shift schedules that impacted my level of work produced and submitted work. This constant work schedule and my current mental health instability have caused a significant decline in my health, in which I am exhausted and unable to produce work for PHGY 215. I produced some work and submitted it for PHAR 300, but I am afraid that it would too low and affect my transcript hence my request for a credit standing course. Since my enrolment here at Queens, I have been with Academic Accommodations and working directly with my Professors to pass my classes. This semester I was unfortunately unable to communicate effectively with my Professors due to the lack of time and mental strain. I am in consultation with both a Psychotherapist and Psychologist to deal with the PTSD, Anxiety and Depression that came alone with excessive 72-hour consecutive shifts. I would appreciate it if PHGY 215 and PHAR 300 can be appealed.

I look forward to hearing from you. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe, healthy, and well.

Sincerely,
Ayesha
