I am appealing to waive the 21 day appeal deadline, as a result of medical incapacity. Unfortunately in my attempt to appeal a drop in my 2013 winter courses, a misunderstanding arose between me and the individuals I contacted on the registrar's office with regard to my appeal. Subsequently, I have been informed that I must complete an appeal to waive the 21 day deadline first before my initial one can be processed. What follows is an explanation of my extenuating circumstances as outlined in my previous appeal (no.642, status incomplete).
The extenuating medical circumstances first occurred during the fall semester, in which my concentration and capacity to attend lectures became extremely difficult. At this point I contacted Queen's HCDS, and after a couple of sessions from a counsellor, I was referred to the local counselling service KC3, as well as a Queen's peer support program, to aid in my studies. At this time I completed an appeal to drop my fall courses, facilitated by a Queen's counsellor, due to my incapacity to function.
Unfortunately my condition worsened during the winter semester, rendering me unable to leave my residence, precluding lecture attendance. This, compounded with the inability to focus on my studies, made a severe impact on my academic achievement. In March it was recommended by my family and physician that I should return home and it was at this time that I left the campus. Unfortunately due to my health I was unable to follow the appropriate academic procedure for such a situation at the time, and that is why my request is being submitted at this juncture.
In the past year I have completed several recovery programs, have acquired the proper medications, and am currently meeting regularly with a counsellor to ensure my continued convalescence. I would profoundly wish to continue my studies, and have decided that, for next year, I could prevent any future issues by attending a more local university, as well as taking a lighter course load, and continuing with medication and sessions with a counsellor. All these actions were recommended and undertaken in agreement with my physicians. I have provided documentation of both my physician's recommendations and completion papers of programs I participated in. Thank you for your time and consideration,
