Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am Tianshu Yin, Student No. 20202516. I want to appeal to drop GPHY 247. In this semester, I have undergone extenuating circumstances beyond my control. On March 2nd, the glass lid of the coffee pot exploded while I was making coffee. The hot coffee and steam burned my forehead, causing all of the forehead skin to fall off. After diagnosis by the hospital, my forehead was a first-degree burn. This makes me extremely painful physically and psychologically. I am a first-year Chinese international student who has just come to Canada for 3 months. The physical pain of severe forehead burns and the strangeness and loneliness in life made me very depressed. It took me more than half a month to recover my forehead. During this period, Queen's University gave me a two-week academic consideration (level: severe) and asked me to rest in bed and not study, so there is a large amount of content I did not learn at that time. After recovering, I tried my best to catch up on all the content, but I failed to do because I didn't have enough time to make up the previous learning content. After that, under the great pressure of study, my chest often feels stuffy and painful. On April 6th, I went to the KGH emergency room due to significant chest pain. The ECG showed my heart rate was only 48 per minute, which made me feel chest discomfort and hard to sleep, so I feel quite exhausted. After two extenuating circumstances, my final exam was very badly completed, and I will earn a substantially lower grade than expected. So, I would like to apply to drop GPHY 247. I only apply to drop this course because there is a series of weekly quizzes and tutorials that I have to attend, but my situation would not let me participate, which resulted in zero marks; there are no such activities in my other courses. In the future, I will use my summertime to learn the course content to ensure I will understand the course content.

Thank you for your understanding.

All in Best,

Tianshu Yin
