Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
I wish to drop both ECON 212 and ECON 222 after the academic deadline. I enrolled in both classes during the 2020 winter semester. I have not submitted any work in either class and have only attended a few lectures. From the beginning of the Fall 2020 semester to late October, I remained absent from class, as I endured extremely unfortunate family circumstances. These events adversely affected my mental health and my ability to concentrate on school. Hence, I spent some of the fall 2020 semester and the majority of the winter 2021 semester completing courses from fall 2020. Since I was managing my courses from the previous semester, I lacked a substantial ability to satisfactorily complete both ECON classes. After finishing my Fall 2020 semester around mid-March, I notified my ECON212 instructor several times, detailing my situation but received no response back. Regarding ECON222, Professor Ian Cromb, the undergraduate chair of economics suggested that I retake the course over the summer term, as posted below:

My understanding is that you have not submitted any course work in ECON 222 this term and that you are therefore requesting that you be allowed to do so in the summer term. There comes a point where accommodation within a course is no longer feasible and the appropriate level of accommodation is about the course itself. You appear to have a very good case to support and appeal to retroactively withdraw yourself from the course. This appeal is to the Assoc. Dean in the Faculty Office. We are offering a remote section of ECON 222 in the spring term. Registering in that class would allow you to complete this important core course this year.

Both ECON 212 and ECON 222 are offered over the summer. I plan on taking those classes during the summer term, as both stand as a mandatory requirement towards my degree. Because of my situation, I am confident that a late drop appeal is justified, as I could not adequately give ECON 222 and ECON 212 my full attention.

Much appreciated,
Alex Traynor
