Concerning Late Course Drop
Sidney Eve Matrix. Film 240
As well as Gender Studies 212
Hello,
I, Jonathan Hill, am expressing a need to have my classes, Film 240 and Gender Studies 212, dropped from my academic record. I have discussed this topic with my Film 240 professor, undergraduate chair, and academic advisor and have received support from all of them to appeal these two classes due to my circumstances over the past term. I have been experiencing a sort of family crisis and have been spending a large amount of my time in Perth Ontario, about an hour and a half out of Kingston, due to my involvement in the matters. The crisis involving divorce settlements and will distribution has caused me to miss a large number of lectures and tutorials and has therefore caused me to completely loose my grasp on the organization and time management of my studies and has resulted in late entries and low marks on my assignment. It has been clear to me since a young age that in order to succeed I need a strict and organized agenda and schedule, and the means to maintain such things were enforced in the three years I spent in a ¿Learning Disabled¿¿ school. My absence from class due to my family crisis has caused this strict agenda to deteriorate. I have discussed the matter with a counselor and she has been very helpful in providing me with advice as of what I can do to help my situation. She suggested that I contact an academic adviser, which I have now done and she too suggested that I submit an appeal. I plan on seeing her frequently over the rest of my time at queens. It was also suggested that I visit a learning advisor with the learning strategies program, which I intend on doing in the coming weeks once my course load has lessened. I have also had discussions with my family about the amount of time I have been spending with them and am trying to spend as little time in Perth as I can until I graduate. As of January 26th 2015 I have not visited Perth once this year and as a result I have completely organized my deadlines until the end of the term, as well as completed all of the readings and projects that have been due so far. Please allow me to remove these courses so that I can continue on my path to a better future at Queens,
Thank you,
-Jonathan Hill
