Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
RE: Catherine Jones, Request for Academic Appeal
I am writing to appeal to waive the 21-day period for an extension on an assignment in PSYC 355 ¿¿ Comparative Cognition with Dr. Valerie Kuhlmeier.
My last few years as a student have been very difficult for me because of ongoing medical issues related to depression. This seriously impacted my ability to effectively prepare for classes and do the necessary coursework. During my fourth year, my condition worsened to the point where I had a serious episode from which I am now slowly recovering. Despite these severe obstacles, I was able to complete almost all of my required courses for an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Psychology. I am one half-year credit away from completing my degree. Due to increased anxiety and stress, I was unable to complete the required workload for PSYC 355 ¿¿ Comparitive Cognition. I have however been able to complete the enclosed assignment which I believe would complete the course requirements.
I have been receiving psychiatric care in both Kingston and Dartmouth for over three years. My Psychiatrist, Dr. Rubens is well aware of my medical situation and agrees that it would have been impossible for me to have completed my work last spring.
It was an honour to have been able to be a student at Queen¿¿s University for the last four years and it has been upsetting for me that I have been unable to graduate. It is my hope that the appeal period can be extended given my situation and that the enclosed assignment will be sufficient to complete my course requirements.
I have asked Dr. Rubens to forward a letter of his own to you in support of my appeal.
Thank you for considering my request. Please contact me if you require further information of have any questions.
Yours Truly,
Catherine Jones
