Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from Queens for a minimum of three years.
I had a car accident on Christmas in 2017. Until I entered school in 2017, my treatment didn't complete, and most of my problems are not solved. During this period, I had to travel to Toronto frequently to see doctor, lawyer and court. It makes me tired, and I feel psychological pain, and my health problems continue to worsen. In 2019, my family was in trouble, my father had an affair, and my grandmother was ill in hospital. I plan to study computer courses, but my bad mood and physical condition, I began to feel tired in the course learning and even felt that it was often difficult to breathe, and insomnia was severe. During this period, I tried to seek school physiotherapy to treat my pain and made an appointment with a school psychologist. As a result, soon after the beginning of the treatment, COVID-19 stopped all my treatment, and I returned to China. During the isolation period, it was the final exam period. My hotel network was poor, which made me almost unable to access the Internet usually. When I was isolated, I learned that my grandmother's physical condition was terrible, making me depressed. From 2020 to 2021, when I got home, my parents were quarrelling every day, and my grandmother died at the end of April 2020, which hit me very hard.
Moreover, the network speed of our home is slow; I bought VPN, but often disconnected, so many tests and examinations I have been reconnecting. Whenever I stay up late to study, I cannot sit for a long time because my back and teeth are excruciating, making my learning efficiency very low. I planned GAP for one year after returning to China because of the lousy network and physical condition. After I was isolated, I told my father my plan, but he did not understand me even beat me. He thinks that all problems can be adjusted by myself, not a big problem; if I do not continue to study, he will not let me go to school anymore. So, I am afraid that my drop course will let him know that I can only continue. The network of my final exams of several courses is constantly reconnecting, and even the final of one course is not uploaded successfully. I hope I can at least pass the course, but there are serious network problems, and I didn't study well in the final exam.
I lived in a hospital in China for more than a month and had two back operations. Now I feel a little more relaxed in my back. After the winter class, I go to my mother's friend's clinic for massage and acupuncture three times a week. I feel much better, but my dentists and most of the treatment still need to go back to Canada. I plan to come back in July, spend two months to finish my dental problems and physical treatment in Toronto, and return to school in September. I will retake MATH 111, CISC 203, CISC 204, CISC 221, CISC 124 and appoint an academic advisor to help me arrange the course. And join the school study group. I plan to study computer science because I realize the importance of computers; I bought a few programming books and previewed a lot about the upcoming courses. I will discuss my goals with my academic advisor when selecting courses and ask her to help me plan a proper and suitable course for me. I got to know many friendly friends through wellness in school, and I want to go back to school, study with them, and succeed.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I am shadowing a plan that I do not yet meet the requirement. I plan to study computing (General), I need to study CISC 124, CISC 203, CISC 204, CISC 221, CISC 225, COGS 201, and CISC 300 level course. In the summer term, I will retake CISC 124 and COGS 100. In the Fall term, I will retake CISC 203, CISC 204 and take CISC 221, COGS 201. In the winter term, I will take CISC 225, COGS 201 and CISC 300 level courses. I will meet with an academic advisor to ensure it is a viable option for me.
I plan to be a Full-time student; After the summer term, I am sure I can complete my teeth treatment and do not need to come back to Toronto. I asked my lawyer to help me find Psychiatrists and physical therapy in Kingston; this solved the problem that I spent too much time on treatment. And now my parents have decided to live apart this year, and I have accepted that. After the winter semester, I stayed at my aunt's home and went to her friend's psychotherapy clinic every week to receive help. Now I am much better. My mother plans to get better, and then Canada will accompany me. After my dental surgery, my insurance will solve my partial compensation, and it will help my financial problems. I am looking for learning materials on the Internet to preview the next course, and I joined the computer learning group.
I have made an appointment with an academic advisor and asked for academic help. After contacting Ms. Meg Hall, who works in school accessibility, I got learning support in wellness service, such as extending the examination time and having a separate examination room. When I get back to school, I will make an appointment with Dr. Khanna, the school psychologist, to continue my treatment.
As for my strategies for success, I had difficulties in learning because of my physical and psychological problems. Now I have received psychotherapy and will complete my dental treatment when I return to Canada in July. At the beginning of the fall, I will go to Queens physical therapy center to solve my physical problems as soon as possible. As for my skills to be improved, I am now strictly planning my daily schedule, learning how to learn programming through the network effectively and practicing the contents I learned before (Python and Java) every day. And I will often contact academic advisors and professors. I used to be afraid to communicate with the school and teachers about my learning problems. I always want to undertake and solve them myself. Always do bad and confused, which also led me to lose many opportunities to solve problems in time.
I will seeking advice from my course professor and TA and attending office hours on a regular basis. I got to know a girl who studies computers through peer mentor program. She was very enthusiastic about telling me how to study computer and her experience in course selection, which was very helpful to me. After studying some courses, I found that I was very interested in computers. Although I had poor grades because of many problems before, I now turn to the school for help and learn the correct way of learning. Now I can quickly write the assignments of previous years in CISC 124 and CISC 121.
These are my academic plans. Now I am trying to correct the mistakes and plan a successful future. I hope I can succeed and become an excellent Queens student.
