Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academics),

Hello, my name is Gerald Parsons and I am writing to inquire about appealing my last bit of school i was signed up for at Queen's University. I had a depression around the time and I'm super foggy on the exact dates but it must of been around 2015. I think it was my last 3 semesters I was signed up for (it could only be two) where I didn't attend any of my courses. I was trying to hang on to school so much at the time and just kept it going so I wouldn't lose it.. I lost it anyway and messed up my grades as well.. I might of been trying to do one of the courses out of the 3 in the first semester but I can't remember if I attempted anything during that time. Im just mentioning this because I remember talking with David Youseff (student advisor at the time) during the depression and he mentioned something about a possible half credit or something but I can't fully remember sorry. Hopefully this info will help with the process and I'd like to apologize for how long its been, I was told to do this before but I was still going through some issues and kind of let it slip away. I'll do my best to explain my situation at the time briefly but still with information.

Q I fell into a mild depression losing a family member and breaking up with a spouse at the time, usually things like this don't affect my big picture of things but unfortunately the family loss and spousal issues just hit me harder than usual and spun me down a bit. At the time I didn't really want to talk about it as it made me feel weak to be depressed and being that way just ended up making it last longer, I just wanted to be alone, stopped talking with friends and just kind of kept to myself and stayed inside most of the time. I even left my job and ended up just going on ontario works (welfare) for almost the length of the depression. This depression lasted me about 3 years, it took me a tiny bit after I realized my faults to start to feel back to my normal self. This was around the start of 2019, so at this time I got back to working and was planning on reconnecting with school and paying off what I owed and possibly getting back into school for 2020 January but unfortunately I was in a motorcycle accident in August 2019. The accident was a SUV who side swiped into me and consequently caused me to have injuries and a concussion, which has just started to get a bit better, the concussion I mean. After the accident the symptoms were bad and it was very hard to focus while reading and I would get very sensitive to light and didn't feel I could retain information as well so I had to again hold off on school. School was a big thing to me and I would have never thought I would get accepted after my history with school in the first place. I was really enjoying my school at the time and i feel I was doing alright with my studies and keeping the required GPA in my situation, since losing my studies with you I've felt like I'm missing something in my life and would like to have that purpose back if at all possible. I'm not decided if this warrants this appeal but me putting things off or procrastinating is what dug me deeper before, atleast this way ive tried and can hopefully get back into some courses as soon as possible and get back on track.

I would like to apologize again for the late appeal and if you need any other information please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I know my format isn't the greatest but I just wanted to make it as personal as I could over a letter. Thanks for your time and consideration and I hope to hear from you soon. Have a great week and be safe

Sincerely,
Gerald Parsons
