Dear Associate Dean:

I am writing to appeal the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from Queens for one year from the Faculty of Arts and Science. I was surprised to receive this message few days ago. I am hoping that you will reinstate me for the coming semester. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my circumstances.

I had a very difficult time last year, and my grades suffered as a result. I knew each student should complete at least 18 units in one year. I thought I could handle the workload, except my grandpa passed away and my mother was in extremely poor physical and mental condition. For the first semester, I was worked as a English teacher in full-time job ( I thought I could handle job and study at the same time), the result is that I only passed statistics. Therefore, I was trying to do my best in the second semester. Unfortunately, my grandpa passed away in March 28th so my family have to back to another province(Henan) to see him one last time. We stayed in the countryside for one month holding the funeral. When we back home my parents starts arguing all the time because of some family conflicts and my mother was in big trauma so I have to take care of my little brother and do the chores. Besides, I took the train to the countryside in May 20th to look after my grandma because she's alone, which is the reason why I did not receive the email because there is no internet in my grandparents' house. After two weeks I picked her up to our house for one month in June. That is to say, in the last semester, I was very distracted with the unexpected home situation, jet lag, and covid-19, and was unable to focus on my schoolwork. I understand that I should communicated with my professors earlier instead of avoiding them. Things just happened out of my surprised and I don't even have time to get in touch with professors.

I still think I am able to pass my courses if things not happened. As you can see, I almost got all A in my GNDS120s tests. Fortunately, my mother is recovering and back to work, everything is back on the right track. For this year I even flew to Canada for a high-effective study. I really don't want to let my parents down. If I am reinstated, I will retake all the courses that been failed (MATH121,PHYS118,CHEM113) except BIOL102&103(I really should give up these two earlier) and make them to B plus. I was trying to take life science at first but now I found out it's too difficult for me, I'll take more math classes and change my program to stats or math. During this year I will use my time wisely and put study on first and take a part-time job if I have more time. Furthermore, I will talk to my advisor every week and communicate more with my professors to keep everything on the right track. No jet lag and home stuff need to be worried, I can fully concentrate on my study.

Please understand that my low GPA does not indicate that I am a bad student. I love school and my classmate and all the teachers I hope you will give me a second chance Thank you for considering this appeal If you need, I could even do some tests or be observed for a month to see if I am able to achieve what I promised. I really don't want to waste the time.Let me take at least two courses this semester please. I can really do a great job I promise.
