Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to appeal the deadline to drop classes without academic penalty. I am a student struggling greatly with my mental health and my course load is making it very difficult to function in my day to day life. I received my first ENGL100 assignment grade on Sunday (October 31) night which did not give me enough time to consider if dropping the course would be the right choice. I sought out a crisis counsellor yesterday (November 1) and was told there was no availability until today (November 2). This meant that I was unable to speak with someone to help decide what would be best for my mental health and my academic success. If I could drop this course I would be far less stressed with my course load (which is currently 7 courses) and be able to take more time to focus on my mental wellbeing.
