Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop the following courses for the reasons out lined below:
1. Worsening mental health. due to the COVID-19 pandemic I have experienced a significant decline in my mental health. The lack of in person class time has made it nearly impossible to make friends and I feel isolated and disconnected from my peers and university life. Its become difficult to get out of bed in the morning and even small tasks like doing the dishes now require a lot my energy and focus. continuing these classes would only add un-necessary stress that I don't feel that I can handle.
2. Recent Breakup and financial stress. Me and my girlfriend of 4 years recently broke up. this has caused a lot of financial stress for me as we lived together and I now have to cover the rent for the whole apartment by my self while I find a new place to live. This means that I have to work more than I would like and although I understand that overexerting oneself does not constitute a valid reason to drop a course, I need to eat. I am also unable to ask my mother for money as she cannot afford to help me. My credit cards are consistently at their limit. This financial stress has caused me severe anxiety and I don't feel capable of absorbing new information with the stress that I am under.
3. They are irrelevant to my degree program. At some point over the summer I got bored with my program and decided I would try something different. Terrible Idea. Computing, psych, and stats, are all irrelevant to my program and completing the courses would serve no purpose in furthering my degree.
