Dear Associate deans, today I am writing this letter to drop one of my courses at Queen's University. Last year, I failed some courses, and I received an academic standing letter from Queen's University. Then, I decided to show my regular academic performance, and I tried to retake Psyc100. However, I still have mental issues, and I thought I could not take this course. For that reason, I decide to drop Psyc 100.
I want to talk about my mental problem here. I had a severe mental problem last year, and my academics turned out to be the worst result. However, I went to a clinic in Japan after the last academic year. I cured my mental problem before this term began. Nevertheless, I came to Canada, and I live alone. This is the first time to live by myself. That made me get sick again. When I get up every morning, I have a big headache. It was getting worth day by day. I also felt nervous every day because I got an academic standing letter. I cannot fail again. That also made me get sick again. I could not attend class a few times and could not go out of my house, so I changed the in-person class to an online class, but it did not work for me. I registered for IML volleyball this term, and I went to games for the first few weeks. 3weeks later, I could not go to the games that are held every Thursday. At that time, I did not want to be mentally ill and fail again, so I tried to change from last term experience like I walked outside a few minutes every day or I often talked with my friends. It made me better just a little bit. I did not realize any significant effects for me. Then I talked about this situation to my friends, and they said you should take courses that you do as much as you can without trying too much. At that time, I felt so much better, but I still had a problem. So, I decided to drop Psyc100.
Having a mental issue is a new experience for me, and I didn't expect to get sick again. Since next time, I will divide up courses to take in few times. Such as, I will take two courses in spring, fall, winter and summer. In addition, I would like to continue doing suitable habitats for mental health. For example, to eat healthy food, to excesses, to keep regular hours and to sunbathe. I want to work hard towards graduation at my own pace. I hope for your understanding and approval.
Respectfully,
Mami Maruyama.
