Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Unfortunately throughout the 2021 fall term my grandmother fell very ill, I had been travelling to and from the GTA and Kingston to visit my grandmother in the hospital and support my mother who was severely impacted by this. My grandmother subsequently passed away on November 3rd, I was extremely affected by this loss and travelled home for an extended period of time. I was unable to complete work in this class due to the emotional and mental fatigue I was experiencing due to a very close family member being sick and passing away, I was also spending so much of my time travelling to and from my hometown and Kingston. I was also needing to support my family as my mother lost her job and was unable to complete day-to-day activities as a result of my grandmothers sickness and passing, which posed an unforeseen immense pressure and weight on my shoulder that profoundly impacted my education and performance in this class. I kept postponing my work in this class as there were no hard due dates and I thought I could catch up once things were somewhat better and my grandmother recovered, I was also putting all the little effort I had left into my other classes which I deemed more important and time consuming as most of them had weekly hard due dates. For these reasons I am inquiring about an appeal to drop my GNDS 212 course this Fall Term, and I please ask for your understanding.
