Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am appealing to drop the courses MUSC 280, MUSC 358, MUSC 392, MUSC 321A and B, ARTH 275, and FREN 107 from the Fall semester (2021).
In the last semester, I have been struggling with some mental health issues and personal problems that have affected not only my wellbeing but my academic performance as well. These issues have been ongoing from previous years but have gotten worse especially a few weeks into this semester. Due to these conditions, it became more and more difficult for me to get things done and keep up with schoolwork.
Before the semester started, I wanted to achieve as much as I could get done this semester, which included taking 9 courses at once while having two part-time jobs on the side. As this semester progressed, it was hard to maintain the schedule and it resulted in a loss of motivation and constant self-loathing. The work accumulated to the point that I could not catch up with everything anymore. I felt like I could not get anything done and turned to unhealthy coping methods.
After a few weeks, I realized that it was harmful not only to my physical well-being, but to my future, mental health, and more importantly, to the people around me. Thus, I have reached out to services in November at Queen??s University, such as counseling, mental health, doctors, and etc.
Around the beginning of December, I went home to my family, so that I can get the support and help that I need. Now, due to Covid-19 the first half of the Winter semester is going to be taken remotely. I can take this time to rebalance my life and think about what is truly important to me. I am also starting to take part in long-term care to improve my mental wellness and take the necessary medication.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jia Jia (Heidi) Cui
