Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is intended to explain the extenuating circumstances due to which I??m requesting to appeal for a late drop for BIOL 330 this past fall term.
Throughout the latter part of the Fall 2021 term, I started experiencing worsening emotional dysregulation problems that severely impacted my ability to stay focussed and motivated on tasks despite my absolute best efforts. In this time, I??ve been in contact with the course Instructor regarding QSAS registered accomodations, course advice and assignment help.
At the first signs of the exacerbation of my emotional dysregulation problems, I contacted my Psychologist who suggested visiting a physician regarding a new dose of antidepressants. Due to longer than usual wait periods, I wasn??t able to start important prescriptions on time which further exacerbated my mental condition and my ability to stay focussed on schoolwork.
I then contacted the SWS Mental Health Triad Crisis Support Team and my Peer Support Center Supervisor to gain extra support in the meantime while managing a suitable option for course work. Christina Cardelus, my QSAS accommodations counselor, further helped me throughout this process.
Although I was eventually able to start the new medication, I was advised it may take a few months for the benefits to kick in. I tried my best to maintain a balanced healthy lifestyle to support my academic performance for the time being through socializing with housemates, practicing yoga, seeking tutors to help prepare during exams and meeting with SASS Academic learning strategists to improve time management.
As supporting documentation, I am including a Letter of Support from my Psychologist. Dr. Farrah Nanji (C.Psych) with my consideration for an appeal to late drop BIOL 330.
I appreciate all the time taken in consideration of my Appeal request. I look forward to next steps and any updates.
Sincerely, Alvira Tazmim
