Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Studies):
I am appealing to drop GNDS 215 (Winter 2015) and PSYC 231 (Winter 2015) because of extenuating circumstances that are beyond my control.
On January 20th, 2015 I suffered a major concussion, which has hindered my ability to concentrate on tasks for long a period of time. The repercussions of this concussion that occurred over two months ago have resulted in an onset of concussive symptoms. The reason that I am only requesting to drop these courses now is that I was urged to take a wait-and-see approach in terms of my recovery and the longevity of my symptoms. Due to the fact that I am still suffering from concussive symptoms, I have been advised by doctors and the academic advisors at Queen¿¿s to lighten my course load by dropping courses in order to help my recovery.
The post-concussive symptoms that I am experiencing make it difficult for me to focus and complete coursework within a timely manner. My recovery period has deprived me of all cognitive and physical activities. With the current academic school year coming to an end, and myself not at my optimal cognitive and physical state, dropping these two courses will lighten my course load and provide the opportunity for me to focus on the core courses that are needed for my degree while alleviating the mental and academic strain that I am currently undergoing.
As a result of this extenuating circumstance I plan on taking courses in the summer to make up for dropping these courses. Please understand that I have added multiple courses to my schedule for the Summer term 2015, but only to ensure that I reserve my spot for various classes.
Thank you in advance for your serious consideration of my circumstance.
Thank you,
Rachelle Joyce Lunar
