Petition Letter: My name is Kathryn Moore I am a fourth year student looking forward to graduating. In my first year I suffered extensively from what I now know to be depression. I feel as though my first-year marks reflect that as you can see a clear shift in my grades reflecting when I was placed on medication and was receiving appropriate treatment. I am at a place now a long time after receiving my mark for PSYC 100 where I can take hold of my depression and aid my success in life further where before it was merely a matter of getting myself out of bed.
The mark I would like to appeal is PSYC 100, I failed this course which is not required for my degree plan because of my depression. PSYC was the only class I did not need so when something had to be sacrificed for the sake of my mental health that was it.
Looking forward to my future that grade is dragging my GPA down and until now I have not had any reason to care about its impact on my GPA. I am a hard-working student who was suffering from mental illness that was undiagnosed, and I would appreciate having that part of my time at Queen??s Removed from my transcript. Student wellness has created appropriate accommodations to aid my fight with mental health and I believe this is just one more step to recovery. I believe that while my illness is not physical I can assure you over the past 3 years it has been an incredible battle and I would love to see our institution recognize the impacts of mental health, especially on first-year students.
