Petition Letter: Hi,
My name is Nicodeme Kwemo, I am a second-year kinesiology student here at Queens and I am reaching out to you about one of my courses from this fall, KNPE 251. I am appealing for a late drop of the course as I was unable to keep up with the course material and assessments for several reasons.
For starters, I am under an accommodation that dates back to September 14th due to receiving hand surgery on that same day which prevented me from attending school for almost 2 weeks. Following those 2 weeks, A close relative of mine had passed which had brought family complications as well as psychological challenges which prevented me from attending even more school. I was only able to continue attending school and its activities at the beginning of November which made it hard to make up for the lost time.
Despite me falling behind, I was still able to make up for missed quizzes and assessments in other courses like KNPE 225 and HLTH 252 due to the professor??s help with my accommodation and adjustments however I did not get the same help from my KNPE 251 professors. I have reached out multiple times via email asking for help with my accommodation and very little help was given in return. Professor Flanagan and Yakimowski failed to inform me how my accommodation would be taken into effect or if it was even taken into consideration. Once I supplied them with the correct documentation about it, I haven't gotten an answer back since November 1st, 2021. If necessary, I can even provide you with the unanswered emails I've sent reaching for assistance. Unlike my ANAT 315 course which was approved of a late drop for the same reasons, I did take my KNPE 251 final exam in fear that there was nothing else I can do to succeed in that course.
In support of my situation, I have been consulting a counselor provided to me by Queen??s Student Wellness Services named Chelsea Stelmach who has helped me deal with my high levels of stress and depression. She has also helped me put together my letter of accommodation and has equally reflected my frustration with the lack of support received from this course.
With this appeal letter, I hope to be able to drop this course late in the term since there was no or very little possibility for me to succeed in it due to circumstances outside of my control. I hope that you will consider my request seriously for the main reason that I was able to catch up in other courses but not this one due to the lack of support received from the professors as well as the lack of attention towards my accommodation.
Thank you for your time,
Best regards,
Nicodeme Kwemo
