Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I hope you are well.
I am reaching out in regards to an academic consideration which I have submitted and then resubmitted a new request prior to my final exam in January as I did not see my midterm grade adjusted in the grade section as I was unsure if it was applied or not (shown 0) because it would be re-weighed into the cumulative final (if midterm not written) according to the syllabus.
My aunt had passed away a day prior to the midterm and the funeral was held during the exam period. I struggled alot after losing 4 people close to me in 2021 in terms of mental health and to my understanding submitted a request of consideration prior to the end of the course.
I had a 90%+ average prior to an unproctored open book midterm and an 87% final grade on a cumulative proctored final with an option to weigh midterm into final in the syllabus. Personally, that shows great understanding of the course. I was asked by considerations to get an appeal for a dropped course or Aegostat grade and it is completely unfathomable that I would need to mark as a dropped course of a required course for my current courses due to something that is extremely simple and an option that is a part of course curriculum.
Also, I do believe it is an extenuating circumstance with the mental effects and trauma from the loss from this and others last year due to COVID it is definitely not easy. I also do believe I sent in a request via the portal but the consideration office didn't seem to receive it and not sure if it's an Act of God that it did not appear but I'm unsure why it invalidates my consideration completely. I have spoken to multiple people including my physician for consults but do not have the insurance to pay for private mental health services. I have been using help lines and individuals that are willing to listen as a method of coping even though it's been extremely difficult which translates to my mental health and ability to process on a day to day basis.
I can get additional documentation if required but all that was requested from my Professor was communication that from the consideration office that I did have extenuating circumstances for consideration and that it would be reweighed but I was asked to appeal and hoping someone can see the amount of work, high grades, and hours put into a course and not have it invalidated because of a technicality.
I am open to speaking and having a call as well as I'm extremely distraught by this whole situation especially knowing the work put in. My number is 647-575-2836.
Thank you and I hope you can see the truth in this appeal.
Best,
Omar
