Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing on the grounds that my ability to perform academically was compromised by an incident that occurred at the hands of a Queen's University TA as well as the death of a family member.
The first matter was thoroughly investigated by Queen's Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Services and lawyers I unfortunately had to meet on campus. The TA was removed from Queen's.
Never having experienced this type of trauma I did not know the impact that it would have on me. To feel as though i had to diminish what happened to me because it was 2 years ago and that the effects of something like this shouldn't last this long is the reason i hesitated to submit this appeal, as a victim, i can confidently say that this incident continues to hinder my academic abilities.
On top of this, I had a close family member pass away mid-semester of this course, to explain via text how emotionally unbearable this was is near impossible. I could not get out of bed, let alone open my laptop to complete assignments.
I am not trying to get out of the work that needs to be done for this course, I am merely indicating that extenuating circumstances contributed to my inability to complete this course.
I am appealing to you in order that you reconsider my F grade in FREN225. I wish you to reconsider my grade in this course as it will permit me to complete my undergraduate degree at Queens. I have one outstanding credit and should you reconsider and provide me with a CR or permit me to complete any assignments, I would then have successfully completed all of the requirements for my degree.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best,
Zeyana Laplante
