Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am looking to drop SOCY 211, statistics, for a couple reasons all a result of one main reason. In December, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, which has had a huge impact on my studies and attitudes. Even before my diagnosis i struggled with similar issues, but being in Kingston while dealing with this has made my depression significantly worse. Which is why I have decide to leave Queens next year and stay at home. I was enrolled in the statistics course because of a possible plan change I was planning, but now that I will no longer be returning I will not be needing this course in the long run. This is a course I have continuously struggled with in the past semester, and is not a course I see myself doing well on the exam, or even passing at this point. After discussing this with my parents, we all decided not finishing the course is the best thing for me, so I can focus on my other work, and myself. We are aware that this course will show up as dropped on my transcript, but still believe it is the best decision.Basically, because of my depression I will not be returning to Queens, and no longer need this course for my degree, and it is best for my mental health that I do not write this exam and focus my energy elsewhere.
