To Whom it May Concern,
I am requesting an appeal for my withdrawal from my three courses during the 2022 winter term that I did not complete. The three classes I was enrolled in were POLS 262, POLS 212 and SOCY 275.
During the 2021 fall term I was in the hospital with a brain injury for a large portion of the term. Once I had been released from the hospital I decided to continue with my studies and received academic accommodations. I struggled to finish that term and had a lot of difficulty with my work.
I thought that I would have recovered well and would be able to complete the winter term as if I was back to normal. I was mistaken as I discovered I was still lacking in my academic ability in comparison to prior to the injury, such as thinking, reading, attention and multitasking abilities. I again struggled in the 2022 winter term, as well as got COVID-19 during the term which set me back and made it even more difficult.
I realize now that I am still not fully recovered and believe I need to give myself some time to heal before I continue my studies. Therefore, I am asking for an appeal for the 2022 winter term because I do not believe I was fit enough to take part in the large amount of work, even with the reduced course load and I think the injury severely impacted my ability to complete readings, assignments and tests/exams.
Although I stopped attending classes in early March when I contracted COVID-19, it has taken me some time to make this difficult decision and find help to figure out my next steps in this process.
