Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Queen??s Student Appeals Office,

I am appealing to request an aegrotat (AG) standing for my HLTH 101 Fall 2021 course due to extenuating circumstances.

I have a rare brain tumour (see attached diagnosis report), which was causing symptoms that were affecting my academic performance during the Fall term while completing my direct-entry Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree. This led to getting an extension for outstanding assignments, assuming that I would be treated for my symptoms back home in Vancouver, BC with my specialists. However, my symptoms have worsened and have not gotten better with the help of many treatments indicating that only brain surgery will treat my symptoms (which I am on the waitlist for). With worsening symptoms, I am not able to complete the outstanding assignments in the HLTH 101 course.

Symptoms caused by my tumour have greatly impacted my academic studies as well as my day-to-day life. Having constant pressure headaches, throbbing of the head, feeling of uneasiness, tinnitus (loud ringing in the ear), balance problems, and motor impairment in my dominant hand, makes completing even the smallest of tasks difficult. Recently, having been to the emergency department due to symptoms being incredibly severe, I feel as though I should be focussing on my mental and physical wellbeing for the duration of waiting until the day of my operation.

My plan post-operation is to return to my studies in Fall 2022 in person (assuming I am fully recovered by that time frame) with the wish to experience the typical student life at Queen??s University. Please understand these circumstances as this has been a difficult year for my family and loved ones and especially myself.

Sincerely,

Christina Gee
