Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I was instructed to submit an appeal due to a severe case of COVID-19 that affected my ability to properly prepare for, and write, my PSYC100 final examination. I completed the examination on April 14, however, I was experiencing symptoms for most of the week leading up to and beyond this date. Throughout the semester, I have consistently put in the effort to keep up with my course work, attend all lectures, make notes and frequently studied the material to prepare for this exam. I deeply love psychology and it is a field I plan to pursue in future years of University and I feel that I was unable to properly complete this exam in a way that shows my full knowledge of the course content. I was unaware that there was a deferred exam period I could have taken until after the exam, in large part because my illness had prevented me from being able to productively look at my course work in the first place. I was able to get into contact with the Department of Psychology about my situation and was told to submit an appeal on the grounds of an invalid attempt. This exam is worth 45% of my final grade, and it is heartbreaking to me that the hard work I have put in throughout the year is being wasted due to something I could not control. I mean it genuinely when I say I was absolutely not in a fit state to be writing an exam. I feel that my performance throughout this semester of school, as well as throughout PSYC100 are indicative of how important my academic success is to me and I would be extremely appreciative if I could receive some help with this situation. Even if outright redoing the exam is not an option, I can complete additional assignments for extra credit or even take the deferred exam and have the two marks averaged out to moderate the impact these extenuating circumstances had on my performance. Ultimately, I would just really like the chance to be able to submit something that reflects the amount of work I have put in throughout both the fall and winter semesters. I appreciate any help you can give regarding this situation.

Sincerely,
Sean Zinner (20277284)

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: As mentioned in my appeal letter, my own academic performance is extremely important to me. Fortunately, I have largely recovered from COVID-19 since I first took this exam, and so can assurance you that I will put in the utmost effort to extensively familiarize myself with the course content if my appeal is granted. This is in addition to all of the time and effort I have devoted to this course throughout the year to allow me to be an engaged member of my PSYC100 class. This was an extremely unexpected and unfortunate series of events and I will absolutely be sure to better prepare myself for emergencies in the future. However, I hope that you are able to help me out with this situation and I am deeply appreciative of whatever solutions can be provided for me. Thank you deeply for taking the time to read my appeal.
