Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am asking to drop MATH 111 after the deadline due to personal circumstances and my mental health.

Over the past year I struggled quite a bit with my own mental health and some personal circumstances that were significantly impacting my academics and other parts of my life. Because of this, MATH 111 happened to be the class I just couldn't bring myself to getting to and I am now in the position where even if I got 100% on my final exam I would still fail the course.

After talking to a few close friends and family, I decided I wanted to take a 5th year to complete my undergrad and wish to retake MATH 111 next year, now that I am finally getting the support I need for success.

To elaborate more on my personal circumstances, over the past year I've been dealing with my relationship with my family being disrupted. Throughout the year I was constantly battling my parents and in a position where everyday I was fighting with them and having to go into classes upset and distracted. This is something I'm continuing to work through and now slowly starting to rebuild the relationships I once had with them.

Due to this and the stress of being successful in school, I was only able to find the energy for my core chemistry classes and wasn't able to apply my skills in this class. Being a student who has done well in math in high school and in first year, I know I have the capabilities of excelling within this course and wish to be able to put my best self forward in the 2022-2023 academic year.

As of now, I only started speaking to a professional within the past week about the situation at hand due to my own fear of reaching out for help and support.
