Dear Office of the Associate Dean,

I am writing to appeal for a credit standing for ANAT 316 which I completed in the Winter 2022 semester. Due to the extenuating circumstance of my cousin's sudden death by suicide, my academic performance in ANAT 316 was negatively impacted.

The death of my cousin impacted my motivation to study and attend class. I was experiencing symptoms of depression which made it difficult for me to start my day and complete schoolwork. ANAT 316 is a very content-heavy course which requires many hours of studying compared to the other courses I took during the Winter 2022 semester. I found it extremely difficult to find the extra motivation to study for ANAT 316 and attend class on top of my three other courses. Whenever I could get the motivation to attend class or study it would only last a maximum of two or three hours which is not enough time to complete assignments and study for all my courses. ANAT 316 happened to be the course that would always suffer.

There was a period from mid-March to the beginning of April when I was feeling particularly unmotivated and depressed due to the loss of my cousin. During this time, I failed an ANAT 316 test. This mark negatively impacted my final grade in the course.

I am hoping to apply to Occupational Therapy School after I complete my fourth year. They will look back at my third-year marks so a credit standing for ANAT 316 would help maintain my GPA when I am applying.

Your review on this matter is greatly appreciated. I look forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Tiaran Sinkus
