Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I??m requesting arrogate standing for the course Chemistry 112. This semester has been significantly difficult for me physically and mentally. After finding out I was pregnant, I was pushed into a deep depression as well as faced with many factors affecting my physical health; difficulties I??m still facing.

I found it impossible to receive help from student faculty, or student wellness, and in this felt extremely alone. I did my best to push through despite what I was going through, it was the only option. In march things were spiralling out of control, my mental health was worsening by the day, and I was unable to find any doctors or supports within Kingston. My family physician thought it would be best for me to return home given my state. I reached out to my professors, explaining the situation, and asking if I could do my exams via online proctor. They all agreed to this request, which I have record of.

When it came time to do my chemistry exam I was feeling extremely sick and felt I was unable to complete it at that time, and so I asked to defer. My chemistry professor agreed to this request, but never informed me that if I were to defer I would no longe be able to write online like we previously discussed. I have already left Kingston, I??m pregnant, and I have no way of getting back. I??ve sent him and email and have yet to receive a reply. I reached out to the exams office and have not received any help or guidance in the situation. Now I??m scared because I don??t want to fail a course I??ve been working on all year, but I also have no way of getting to Kingston.

I??ve done all the course work, and did my best to the very end. Even attending labs when I could hardly walk, or hold down fluids. I??m hoping to be approved for arrogate standing as I feel I??ve done my best in the situation, and I??m unsure of what more I can do.

All of this has put an extreme strain on my learning, and has left me unable to perform to my full capacity.
