Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I must admit I have had a very tumultuous time over the last year, and my grades have suffered because of it, I'd like to be transparent and explain my circumstances in hopes of shedding some light on how they have affected my overall academic performance and life in general.

Over the last two years I have experienced drastic mental health and family issues. I have been diagnosed with social anxiety and depression and have been put on several antidepressants that have not seemed to work. My suicidal ideation spiked over the year, I have responded vigilantly by visiting KGH but would instead be stuck in the waiting room for hours. I developed an eating disorder during my first year, which I have since taken care of however, In 2016 I received a liver transplant which makes visiting clinics and hospitals difficult because I end up having to stay longer for testing and having to come for follow ups often. Despite this, I have tried to remain on top of my work and deadlines but have had difficulty over the year.

My first year of studies was very stressful and difficult to manage on top of trying to deal with my overall health. I believe I can do better in these classes in the future if given the opportunity.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: After being put on academic probation after my first year I tried harder to focus and bring up my grades while still dealing with my mental health. I have improved my study habits and have went from averaging Ds to receiving Bs in classes, I know I am capable of doing better in less trying circumstances. If given the opportunity, I will devote more time to my classes and the Queens community. I have since starting seeing a therapist which has greatly helped me improve my mindset, and mental health, and plan to keep seeing them weekly to deal with academic stress and life in general.I began attending eating disorder support groups wich have greatly impacted me and my health, I have also started reaching out to services on campus like SASS to help with my academics and when needed would be open to hiring a tutor. I plan on retaking the courses I did poorly in and possibly chnaging my academic plan in the next year. I would not be opposed to remaining on academic probation for the following year to prove that I am able to bring up my GPA and be a great student.

I have been an executive member of QUMSA for the 2021-2022 school year, and was part of the mentorship program as well as a general member of the Queens Pre-law society as well.
