Petition Letter: Dear appeal office,
My name is Xiangyi Chen. I am appealing for the late drop for the course GPHY 230 22W. I was ill before and until late March I came back to study. In this course, I contacted the instructor for continuing studying and completed the final exam on time. However, the instructor suggested asking for a late withdrawal as there is no offer to make up the previous work to complete the course.
I understand his decision so I asked for this appeal. However, I would like to declare that I did not ask for this purposely. In the Final exam, I received a grade of 78/100. I believe it can prove that I really did my level best to catch up with the class in the last 3 weeks. No matter what, I have tried my best to learn and will respect the instructor. I really appreciate that you could help me with that

Decision(s) Being Appealed: Drop a course after the academic deadline: GPHY 230, Winter 2022 (David Gorden): final exam
Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: Dear Board of Studies,
My name is Xiangyi Chen. I am appealing to Drop the course GPHY 230 after the deadline was denied by the Associate Dean before. The appeal is 9222. I think there are some misunderstandings in my appeal letter due to my unclear writing.
Firstly, I would like to elucidate the ?final exam?? I mentioned in the title and appeal letter. I am not asking for the late drop due to the lower grade. In fact, this grade is well in the class. I wrote that in the title because there is not a suitable option to describe my situation. As I only completed the final exam, I wrote this in the title. In the appeal letter, I wrote this because I would like to show you I have completed as much as I could for this class, and I am not purposely dropping it after the deadline.
Besides, I would like to talk about why I dropped this course late. As I reported before, I was ill seriously and the symptom reoccured for times. After my condition was stable, I contacted the instructor on March 24 for my accommodation. I asked him whether it is fine to make up the assignments late. After I submitted my accommodation letter, I received his email for permission to continue on assignments and the final exam. I attended the final exam on time like other students in class. Even there are around only 3 weeks for me to study for it. After that, I was suggested to drop this course since the instructor cannot make up the assignments before passing this course. I totally understand his decision and therefore I choose to drop this course. I am sorry I did not write these details when I appealed for this course. I was uncomfortable and inconvenient in the hospital during that time. I am sorry for making you confused about it.
I also would like to tell you about my health condition. As you can see in my previous appeal, I was ill for a long time. This resulted from my surgery and family broken before, with a quite long time of legal proceedings. Due to the privacy concern, I cannot report very details on this but the severity was beyond what I reported to the faculty. These things impacted negatively until this year. At the end of October 2021, I was sent to the hospital for course treatments. Besides, I still suffered from major depression. I had difficulties communicating with others, even though I cannot speak to anyone. This is the reason why I did not respond in time. I truly had very difficult times and was exhausted from struggling with it.
Besides, I would like to elucidate my appeal history to regain trust. I knew during these two years, I asked for the appeal for every term and this may make you think of me as unreliable. I never thought this is a long fight and thus my academics had to stop for a time. I experienced a lot and fortunately, I am still here for being back to normal life. Now I have almost finished all my remaining and decide to end up the vicious cycle of my life.
I knew I made mistakes in my rash writing on the previous appeal. I apologize for this sincerely. The result will impact my academics seriously and I had no chance to make up for it. Your decision on my appeal means a lot to me. I would really appreciate it if you could help me
Sincerely,
Xiangyi Chen
