Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop this course due to the extenuating circumstances of my daughter's illness and complex medical needs. I am a single parent and my daughter has been ill since July of 2011. In January of 2014, her needs significantly increased and her appointments at Sick Kids hospital also increased. By the summer of 2014, while I was trying to get through Psych 370, I was making numerous trips to Sick Kids. My daughter has autism, a genetic microdeletion and several other diagnosed complications. My final exam was scheduled for September 12. On September 9, I had to attend Sick Kids again where I received devastating diagnostic news about my daughter which I discovered will impact her, and the quality of her life, for the remainder of her life.

I am an excellent student and in my five years at Queens, have maintained excellent grades. Even though my daughter is too medically fragile to attend school, I have been able to complete all course work while caring for her full time. I am now only 2 credits away from graduating with my BAH in music and a Minor in Psych. Please consider my request to drop Psych 370 after the drop date. I was just not in the state of mind to write the exam.
