Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am a biochemistry major, and I was made aware that there is a gpa requirement for fourth year courses. I understood that I was on the cusp for the gpa requirement and once the grade came in, on May 10th, I waited for an email to see if I was not in good academic standing for fourth year. I checked solus and the academic planner and they both stated that I was in good academic standing. I received no email, but I decided to email my prof and he stated that I was below by 0.07 (gpa of 2.43 instead of 2.5), and that I was too late to apply for the summer course, meaning I would have to graduate a semester late. In BCHM 316 I did perfect on all of the quizzes and got a B- on the midterm. I never received the final grade for the term paper and realized that my mark must have dipped from a B- to a C+ from the term paper or the final exam. I did the math and if my mark for the class is increased from a C+ to a B- I will be able to enter the fourth year classes. I need the mark as I can't afford to fund another semester of schooling, as I apply for bursaries each year, and pay for my rent and tuition myself. I also had covid in week 10, the week that the term paper was due, but did not decide to use academic consideration as I used it previously for my wisdom teeth surgery. I attended every class, I went to the review sessions, and in my three years at Queen's I have never asked for a regrade or extension on any of my assignments. I need this grade change, and if not I will miss my projected graduation date. Thank you for your time.
