New Information: Dear Associate Dean,
The following amendment to this appeal is the revised appeal regarding specified timelines, and the impact circumstances had on the delay of writing this appeal.
I am appealing to waive the 21-day deadline, and am answering as to why I missed the June 14th deadline to appeal to waive the request to withdraw for one year, so that it may be heard late.
Around early Fall term in 2021, I realized the courses I had been taking did not lead up to the right program for me. At that time, I spoke with an advisor over the phone. They advised me to stay in my courses and finish the year to take my preferred program in 2nd year.
I had mental health issues in 2019 for which I had to seek medical attention. The symptoms of which hadn??t occurred until around the end of the 1st month of Winter term in 2022. Due to higher complexity of the course work, as well as the absence of my parents in the household which had caused a significant lack of emotional support from parents that occasionally triggered the mental health issues to emerge for which I was not able to put consistent effort to the course work, I could not meet the school??s benchmark.
From late-April 2022 until June 27th 2022, I had missed the June 14th deadline to waive the request to withdraw for one year because the situation obstructed me from taking action, such as looking further into it or anticipating any consequences.
On June 27th 2022, I sent an email to The Faculty of Arts and Science Appeals regarding starting over in my desired program as I was new to the concept of the request to withdraw. The response directed me to appeal to waive the 21-day deadline, as well as to speak with an advisor regarding appeals over the phone or through drop in.
On June 28, 2022, I went to pick up a close family member from the airport.
After June 28 until June 30th, I went to the hospital to collect supporting documents for the appeal, and was not able to speak with an advisor until the exact day subsequent to the 21-day deadline on July 5th, 2022, as the school was closed between July 1st to July 4th.
The advisor told me that the deadline was not rigid. However, they said I should submit the appeal as soon as possible. They also mentioned helpful links regarding the appeal.
After the 5th, I had practiced rigorously for my driving test that was on July 8, 2022.
On July 9, 2022, I went to pick up another close family member from the airport. I was prevented from working on the appeal on those days because I went to another city to pick them up.
From July 10, 2022, until now, I have dedicated enough time to apprehend what the appeal was about and what to write for it.
The situation occurring in the 2021-2022 year and the fixed circumstances following prevented me from taking action before the appeal deadline and within the 21-day deadline respectively.
Due to re-established parental support, I believe I??ll be able to recover the drawbacks and move forward. I would take this appeal as an opportunity to start over in my desired program this upcoming Fall term in 2022.
